  • 1995 – 1997 paediatrician at St. Marien Hospital, Bonn
  • 1997 – 2000 scientific research in the field of healthcare telematics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR)
  • 2000 – 2005 research assistant in the malignant lymphomas competency network (KML), University of Cologne
  • 2004 – end of 2005 CEO of the Scientific Institute of Registered Haematologists and Oncologists (WINHO), a spin-off of the KML
  • January 2006 – September 2008 telematics consultant to the management of the German Medical Association, where his responsibilities included developing a special concept for documenting medication on the electronic health card
  • October 2008 – September 2015 Consultant on safe drug treatment to the Drug Commission of the German Medical Association (AkdÄ) and responsible for coordinating implementation of the action plan to improve safe drug treatment (AMTS) in Germany; in this function also member of the coordination group for the AMTS action plan.
  • October 2015 – March 2017 Project manager in the field of process management at the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQTIG), where he is responsible, among other things, for new cross-sector processes.
  • As of April 2017 – Consultant for telematics and telemedicine to the German Medical Association.
