Markus Pätzold

My name is Markus Pätzold (47) and I grew up in Gelsenkirchen, in the heart of the Ruhr industrial region.

After graduating from high-school and completing my military service with the German armed forces, I trained as a nurse at the Essen University Hospital. In the following years I worked for various departments of the university hospital, including the cardiology, cardiac-thoracic surgery intensive care and dialysis units.

I have been engaged in intensive research in the field of electronic documentation since 2009 and the hospital´s care management released me from my normal duties so that I could work on the subject full time and promote this topic at the Essen university hospital.

I joined the IT department as part of the EPA rollout and now lead a team working on electronic documentation. My scope of duties includes planning, organising and holding training courses as well as setting parameters for and adjusting the KIS.
